- Packaged Cooling Towers
IPSCO manufactures a wide range of cooling towers from steel and stainless construction through to site erected concrete towers.
Steel cooling towers with appropriate surface finishes are extremely durable, there are IPSCO steel towers in service currently up to 25 years old still operating continuously which have never been repainted and showing no signs of corrosion. Steel is of known thickness, strength and durability from day one and any deterioration in the protective coating will result in noticeable and easily repairable surface deterioration. It has the added advantage of being able to have additional fittings added, such as ladders and service platforms, by simple welded or bolted techniques.

The latest designs take into account ease of inspection and cleaning and the safety of personnel doing that. Features designed with legionella in mind include the gravity feed trough and weir type water distribution system to lessen the creation of aerosols during operation and the fully demountable pack to lessen the need for aerosol creating high pressure water sprays during cleaning.
Our eliminators reduce drift to a guaranteed .0006% of flow.
Packing for high temperature applications up to 100 degC are available.
The greatest obvious change is the relocation of fans to the inlet side of the tower. This means that the fan handles dry, cool air and, duty for duty compared with the conventional fan on outlet, will draw less power to the extent that it may have a lower kw electric motor. Under this arrangement the fan and motor are not exposed to moisture and corrosion and will require less maintenance than top mounted fans. Being on the inlet side of the tower, the fan is near to ground level so that any maintenance required will be easier and safer.
An added advantage of fans at ground level is that fan noise is radiated from a position that is easier to acoustically screen and if required silencers are easier to fit and only need handle dry air. For noise sensitive applications centrifugal fans are available as an option, and these also may be further quietened with acoustic enclosure.
Steel towers are well suited to the NZ market. They can be quickly and economically made to order in any size from a large range without the requirement for expensive moulds or extended import lead times. Package design means that sizes up to 30 square meters can be delivered to site completely factory assembled, but modular construction also allows for easily connected sub-assemblies in applications where site crane capacity is limited.
Our towers are available with one or two layers of pack for increased efficiency. This means that a tower can have a smaller footprint and take up less space on site than a single layer pack tower.
